Congratulations to Orlagh and Jack who played at half time yesterday at the Malachy McGeeney game. It was a poignant event where Malachy McGeeney was fondly remembered.

Cumann na mBunscol Ard Mhacha paid a special tribute in honour of their Honorary President Malachy McGeeney, at Armagh’s Senior League Game against Tipperary today.
For almost 50 years Malachy, who passed away on Sunday 11th January 2015 after a short illness, was steadfast in his commitment to ensuring that gaelic games was the number one choice of games in all our primary schools.
Malachy was a founder member of the Armagh Primary School League 1965-66 and in 1981 he was responsible for Armagh joining Cumann na mBunscol. Within Armagh Malachy held many positions including the posts of Secretary, PRO, Treasurer, Chairperson and until his death Honorary President. He was also a founding member of Cumann na mBunscol Uladh and he also joined the National Committee and held the post of Development Officer on two occasions, Vice-Chairperson from 1995-2000 and President from 2000-2005.
Throughout this lengthy period of administration, Malachy was also heavily involved in all aspects of coaching and organisation both at local and Ulster level and indeed it was Malachy’s innovative approach and willingness to engage in new ideas and initiatives that lead the foundations for a very effective Cumann na mBunscol both within Ard Mhacha and throughout Ireland.
Cumann na mBunscol Ard Mhacha welcomed Malachy’s wife Mona and his children Ciaran and Maria to the Athletic Grounds where they presented medals to all the children after the half time game.
Cumann na mBunscol Ard Mhacha will be forever indebted to Malachy for his tireless work, vision and commitment to the advancement of gaelic games in our primary schools.
Malachy's Months Memory Mass will take place on Sunday 8th February 2015 at 12.00 Noon in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cloughreagh.
