Letter from Queens University
The Maths Academy at Queens University Belfast is working with colleagues across the university and wider community to deliver MathsQUBe, a FREE program of daily maths activities for primary school children.

Each day at 10.30am we will bring a new fun maths educational video which teaches children the importance of maths in our everyday lives and shows how important maths is for so many things. Maths is hidden everywhere and we would like to invite you to contribute and take the opportunity to make your sitting room a class room available to all children. I know everyone is very busy at the minute but if there is a possibility you, or any colleagues or parents you know, would be willing to produce a short 5 - 10 minute maths related fun and educational video for primary aged children, this would be much appreciated.
You can create the video alone or with family/pets/props to show something related to maths in your job/hobby/life. Ideally if you could include an activity for kids to do at home it will keep them engaged.
- It can be as simple as multiplication or basic data analysis, or telling the time to attend meetings, or more complicated, like ratios
- Maybe as a fitness instructor (in your spare time!) you use angles to explain the correct way to exercise
- Or you might use fractions to measure food in a recipe
- If you are interested in fashion design or engineering you could show how taking precise measurements or estimating the cost and profit of materials is essential.
Be imaginative - maths is everywhere!
If you have a fun maths activity you would like to create and share a video for please get in touch at mathsqube@qub.ac.uk
