Today when the children arrived at nursery they discovered the fish had been frozen in a block of ice in the water tray. Determined to help free the fish the children had fun exploring the properties of ice. They used warm water and droppers, hammers and simply the warmth of their hands to rescue the fish. This activity introduced the children to key words such as ice, frozen, hard, solid, melting and liquid. It also helped them to build on problem solving skills while engaging in a fun hands on learning experience.
