FOUR COUNTY FINALS FOR SAINT MARY'S P.S. GRANEMORE

The success continues on the Sporting Field for the pupils of St. Mary’s Primary school Granemore.

 

St. Mary’s Primary School is the only school in County Armagh that will compete in the County Indoor Finals in Boys Football, Girls Football, Camogie and Hurling, a magnificent achievement for the school and the local community.

 

The hurling team, mostly made up of players from the local Keady club were the first to qualify. They won all their games in a tight section in Silverbridge GAA complex before Christmas and will now compete with two other schools for the county title.

Hurling Panel – Conor Rafferty, Padraig Donnelly, Ryan Mc Caughey, Conor King, Cíllene Fearon, Niall Mc Clelland, Mark Renaghan, Cormac Kerr, Shane Hughes and Conal Mc Givern.

 

Having watched the Hurlers qualify the Girls football team were determined to make it through to the County final as well. They also won all their matches, which were played in a Round Robin basis in St. Patrick’s High School, Keady and qualified for the three team final, which will be played later this term.

The panel for the county final is; Corinna Doyle,Maria Doyle, Aine Keenan, Seana Lappin, Aoibheann Mc Clelland, Aimee Mc Kee, Kaitlinn Murphy, Katie Smyth (all Granemore GAA Club) and Sadhbh Gorman (Mullabrack Ladies GAC).

 

Next up were the Boys football team. This time the boys had to travel to the Orchard Leisure Centre in Armagh and were in a tough City section. Once again they remained unbeaten and qualified for the county final along with five other schools.

The Boys football panel for the county final will be Padraig Donnelly (Keady Lamh Dearg), Ryan King, Conor King, Mark Renaghan, Niall Mc Clelland, Ryan Mc Caughey, Conor Rafferty, Conor Nugent (all Granemore GAA Club,) Cíllene Fearon (Ballymacnab) and James Mc Geary and Cathal Haughey (both Clady GAA Club)

 

The Camogie final will also involveSt.Mary’s Primary school and three other school’s from within the county. The girls travelled to Silverbridge only a few weeks ago with St. Mary’s Sports Co-ordinator, Mr. Magee and Granemore Camogie Club coach, Mary Mc Guigan. The girls made it a remarkable four out of four for the school. The Camogie panel for the county final is Katie Smyth, Aine Keenan, Corinna Doyle, Maria Doyle, Caoimhe Lennon, Aimee Mc Kee and Seana Lappin who are all form the local Granemore Club.

 

All at the school are tremendously proud of the children and are looking forward to participating in the finals in the coming weeks and months. The staff and local community wish the children and their mentors all the best in their quest for a county title and the opportunity to represent Armagh in the Ulster Indoor Championships.

 

The school would like to thank the local clubs and coaches for the work and effort in coaching the children.

 

Commenting on the recent successes, School principal, Mr. Mallon thanked all those who have worked with the children in the school and the local community.

“It is a magnificent achievement, and the children who played in these teams deserve all the praise they get. They are great children and not only compete and succeed but do so in a manner that is sporting and respectful and we can all be very proud of them.”

 

Dates for the finals are still to be confirmed but all in the school and locality are looking forward to the Alliance Cumann na mBunscol, Ard Mhacha sponsored events.
