World War 2

23rd Jan 2018

Recently, the children from Primary 4 went on an exciting school trip to compliment their work in World Around Us where they are learning about the Second World War.

They arrived at the Palace Stables where they were shown some artefacts from that era. Afterwards they went to a classroom where they made their own name tags and and identification cards.

They then went to a kitchen where they were shown rations and how people were expected to share food. The billeting officer was very cross, especially when he saw that children weren't carrying their gas masks.

He took them outside where they saw an Anderson Shelter and then everyone went to an underground bunker. An interesting fact was that this is where the white lines on the roads were developed.

They also met an American GI who showed everyone how to break codes. He also showed them how to stand to attention and gave everyone a new name by which they would have been known if they were in the army at that time.

This was a fantastic trip and everyone had a great time.
